There's a reason I don't have fish

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 4, 2014, 10:36 PM
…since fish, much like this page, can't really remind you it's there…Yeah, I'd forget about it eventually…

Well, I have good news and bad news my dear followers who still check this page even though I've severely neglected it.

Good News - I'll finally be returning to the pottery studio at the end of this month.

Bad News - I have no idea how productive I will manage to be and my work will likely never make it to a con this year. Why? Well, that involves a bit of story.

Ever since January of 2013 I've been pursuing an Associate's Degree in Veterinary Technology. I finally got past all the general education classes and got to my tech classes last July. I am currently still in the throes of the program and it has pretty much taken over my life and devoured the majority of my free time. What free time I do have I tend to spend in a mindless haze of stress reducing activities because I'm so exhausted from my class. It's one class a month. Three times a week for four hours. Not to mention I have to work the kennels once a day at least four times a month. Imagine cramming a semester's worth of work into one month. Oh yeah, also imagine you have a mid-term and a final EVERY month. It's exhausting, but I love it. However, as any of you reading this have likely guessed, this sort of class leaves me with little free time and even less energy for creating. It doesn't help that I'm also allergic to dogs and cats, so I'm in a constant state of fighting against developing a sinus infection (though I'm getting allergy shots now, so hopefully that issue will lessen over time…I really hope they work because I really really really really REALLY want a kitty someday).

So yeah, I'm basically in a perpetual state of studying, testing, learning practical skills, and…well, stress…and fatigue. Unfortunately, it has managed to drain me of most of my creative energy. I haven't done any art in months and likely won't ever be ready for a convention at any time this year.

Which brings me to Natsucon. I'm sorry, but I'm breaking my tradition and I will NOT be having a table this year. I'm not even sure I'll be able to attend as a regular attendee because I'm due to start my three month externship in July and I'm required to work 30 hours every week (I think I have a class meeting once a week, too). Sooooooo, yeah….Artist Alley Table? Not feasible. As much as I love to try to live by Tim Gunn's phrase: "Make it work." I can't make this work. If everything goes according to my vague plans…I'll be a Registered Vet Tech by the end of the year and finally have something I can pursue as a career rather than just a job. I do at least hope to attend Natsucon 2014 as a regular attendee so I can still see people.

I know I made a lot of promises to a lot of people last year and if circumstances were different, I'd be able to keep them. However, this is my first step to what can potentially be a lifelong career for me and I'm not going to let myself screw it up by trying to please everyone. Hopefully, I'll be able to have a table in 2015 and, if things work out, it'll have plenty of items that will make up for the missed year.

If I manage to get some time where my mood and mind are so inclined, I'll post pictures of stuff I made for the last Natsucon and other projects I managed to get done before school completely took over my life. Also, I may have a couple of new things popping up that are related to my current vocation-related pursuit. Like dog and cat bowls or sommat like that. We'll see. Time will tell.

Also, my mom is getting back surgery in April, so my help will be needed around the house more often.

Anyway, thanks for hearing me out. With that, I must be off to the land of slumber.

Catch ya' on the flipside, mates!

Well, keep at it with the saltines and water rations!

I know how hectic schedules are now.... And that's without school to further bog it down (yet).... Finally might be eligible for a job with pay though. Might.

So, from one busy person to another.... Keep your head up! Stay strong, and don't overdo it!

Just do what you want to do, that usually works out best. Sleep well, and stay warm!

Thanks. I'm in the home stretch now. It's rough. Particularly this month since I have to get all 120 work hours in 3 weeks rather than 4 due to an unexpected, but mandatory trip I had to take. Luckily, I'm working at the vet clinic my family's been going to since…well…Since as long as I can remember, so they've been working with me on that. The next two months should be a bit easier.

That's always nice! A job that will work with you is sooo much better, even when hard, than a job that refuses to be flexible at all.

I hope the month passes without issue for ya, regardless! And good luck!
